Frank Jamison - Poem

WINTER PORTRAIT OF A YOUNG DOE

She was traveling alone. Her flanks were jeweled

with powdery snow as she stepped out of the woods.

It wasn’t the coldest winter, but the lake was rimmed in ice.

Clouds pressed down as the bitter wind sifted through the trees.

That was yesterday. Today the woods are empty.

Yet there is an incandescence glowing in my chest.

Frank Jamison was born in West Tennessee. He is a graduate of Union University and the University of Tennessee. His poetry, essays and fiction have won numerous prizes. He was nominated for a Pushcart Prize in 2006.
