Women of Labor Francesca Bilfuco 2021 Acrylic on wood panel 48 x 48 in.
A group of women in labor rely on each other throughout the physical and emotional act of creation, in a symbolic communal birthing pool. This work is the focal piece of a new installation based project currently in development that reinterprets historical religious iconography and cultural traditions to narrate the visceral journey of womanhood, blurring thelines between sacred and profane, mystery and devotion.
